Comprehensive Home Performance Assessment ($500) — A Full Energy Roadmap
For homeowners serious about improving efficiency, comfort, and home upgrades, the Comprehensive Home Performance Assessment goes beyond the basic NYSERDA assessment to deliver detailed testing, accurate data, and a complete action plan.
Why Upgrade to the Comprehensive Assessment?
A basic energy assessment only scratches the surface—our advanced diagnostics measure and quantify air leaks, insulation weaknesses, and HVAC performance with scientific accuracy.
What’s Included?
Everything in the NYSERDA Home Energy Assessment, PLUS:
Blower Door Test – Pinpoints air leaks & weak insulation levels and improves the accuracy of energy modeling and heat load calculations.
Detailed Web-Based Report – Includes:
A priority list of recommendations — so you don’t need to take notes!
Photos & videos taken during the assessment
Key data, measurements, and findings — perfect for showing contractors exactly what needs addressing.
Accurate Heat Load Calculation (Manual J) – Essential for properly sizing a heat pump and preventing costly mistakes.
Advanced Diagnostics – Infrared imaging, pressure testing, and airflow measurements for deeper insights.

Which Assessment is Right for You?
Existing Building vs. New Construction / Recently Remodeled
Energy Assessment for Existing Homes
A home energy assessment is like getting a doctor's checkup for your house.
This is an assessment of your home's potential for practical improvements, such as insulation and air sealing, HVAC upgrades, appliances/lighting, and reduction in energy usage. It's aimed to meet your needs and goals, and budget. We offer different levels of investigation, including infrared assessment, combustion testing, energy modeling, gas leak detection, and air leakage testing (blower door, duct blaster).
Our assessment will also consider health and safety concerns, air quality issues, and offers prioritized recommendations.
Energy Assessment for New Construction / Remodels
There are excellent opportunities to test buildings in construction or near final construction to assure that the work meets specifications, Code compliance and hasn't overlooked details. Blower testing on house shells or ducting can quantify good work before these areas get closed up. Infrared and combustion analysis, and gas leak detection quantify the work is done right. Blower testing toward the end of construction can prove the contractor's good work or help zero in on problem areas to address to meet energy efficiency goals. As well, Green Building Specialists will work with you to be available at the specific timing needed for the efficiency of your project schedule.

Home Energy Score (HES)
Green Building Specialists can provide a HES score for your building(s).
Developed by the Department of Energy and its national laboratories, the Home Energy Score provides home owners, buyers, and renters directly comparable and credible information about a home’s energy use. Like a miles-per-gallon rating for a car, the Home Energy Score is based on a standard assessment of energy-related assets to easily compare energy use across the housing market. To learn more about this score, visit the Department of Energy Better Buildings website.
